There’s nothing like the feeling you get in the final five minutes before a product manager interview. You’re excited, nervous, anxious, and so much more. This is what you’ve been waiting for. Now, it’s time to perform like you know you can.
While no two people prepare for a PM interview in the exact same manner, it helps to have a clear idea of how you’ll spend the final minutes before sitting down with the interviewer. You don’t want to waste this valuable time.
Before we go any further, here’s something to remember: the way you approach an in-person interview won’t be the same as an online interview. So, keep that in mind as you work through the suggestions below.

- Remain positive: Keep a positive mindset, laugh, and have a chat with a friend, family member, or someone in the office. Your goal is to calm your nerves and gain confidence in having a conversation.
- Don’t put pressure on yourself to learn: You’ve done all sorts of practice, ranging from group mock interviews to online prep courses. Now’s the time to put your knowledge to good use. It’s not time to cram.
- Check your technology: With an online PM interview, make sure your technology — such as your computer’s audio and video — is working.
- Collect what you need: This can include items such as a pen, paper, and a bottle of water.
- Log into PM Exercises: This doesn’t mean you should spend the entire interview reading off your screen. And of course, it doesn’t mean you should repeat answers verbatim from the PM Exercises website. However, it may come in handy if you need to quickly glance at a framework for answering a specific question.
- Meditate: Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and visualize yourself performing your best. It only takes a couple of minutes of meditation to reduce your stress and anxiety and position you for success.
- Listen to music: Some people listen to calming, soothing music before a job interview. Others prefer something that gets their blood flowing. If you want to take a scientific approach to creating a pre-interview playlist, this article is well worth checking out.

Above all else, continue to tell yourself that you’re embarking on a learning experience that will be both fun and exciting. Even if you underperform by your standards, this interview will prepare you for the next one (if you don’t land the job, of course).
When you’re prepared, in a positive frame of mind, and excited about meeting a new person with the same interests, you’ll feel your best when it comes time to walk into the interview room.
At PM Exercises, our goal is to give you the confidence you need to crush any and every interview you go on. In addition to group practice and our online prep course, we also have a list of more than 2500+ product manager interview questions from top tech companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and many more.
